Gerald sat back on his swivel chair, and thought for a bit. The swivel chair was uncomfortable, and it didn't even swivel all the way around. It wasn't as if Gerald would even play on the chair if it went right the way around. It was the principle of the thing. The people the ran the place wasn't even willing to give Gerald the chance to prove himself mature by not playing on the swivel chair.
But I digress.
The other chairs around the table, where Gerald's friends usually sat, were empty. One or two of his chums had promised to drop on by, have a bit of a chat and liven the place up a bit, but others were just too busy to come here anymore, and some just couldn't care less.
Threads of conversation had simply died down among the group, and coming here, now, was almost a last ditch effort to keep the spirit of the place alive.

Martin hadn't turned up because he was too busy playing a trivia game on the internet.
"New Christy Minstrels! 85 points! Yeah!" he screamed, and then typed (in capitals) for the benifit of the other players.
He vaugly remembered having something to do. And tried to remember the last word to the title, "His hand in ----".
"Mine! Mine!"
He was too slow. But he had to keep playing. He only needed four more points to take the 2023rd placing.
If his chair swiveled, he was not aware of it.

Tiberius Frost was not one of Gerald's friends. He never had been. It was possible that one day he would be, but for now he was not.
Frost walked into the cafeteria, and sat at the second stool form the far end, several stools away from Gerald. He knew the secret about this chair.
Tiberius Frost ordered a black coffee with lots of sugar. While he was waiting, he played on his swivel chair. This one went ALL the way around.

Martin's absense had no real good explanation. Gerald was in under 350th place by now, and had shown Martin the game in the first place. The people in there were fast, but not unbeatable. In fact, Tiberius was the one who originally found it and told Gerald about it.

Tiberius had long since clocked Trivia and had contemplated Morrowind, but then decided on Internet-Roleplay instead. It was only marginally fulfilling, he thought. But at least he had a swivel chair, and that was what was important.
He was sure that the other people in the coffee shop were jealous of his full 360 degree, 2pi radian field of rotation. He knew that if smebody else had that power and he didn't, he would've been jealous.
It was a better evil power than gravity, any day.

Gerald was quite certain that Tiberius envied his gravity. After all, who wouldn't want a force stopping you from floating off into space? However cool a proper swivel chair would have been, Gerald was the realistic, sane one. Instead of floating off in some wild fantasy, he was the the guy that kept his feet on the ground.
He was also the one that couldn't help himself from making bad jokes, even when it threatened his personal wellbeing. All too often were his puns worse than Kelly's pies.
The cafeteria on a volcano in space had once again turned silent. The only real reason Gerald was sitting here, getting rambled about, was the fact that if he didn't it would look like there was more happening at the place that tried to wear pants but failed.

It was not a power to be proud of. He drunk his coffee. For such a large building there was not many people.

Tiberius turned around pi radians. He liked using complicated terms, they made him sound silly because they weren't really that complicated.
Tiberius frowned. He had just contradicted himself.
Blast.
He wandered over to the airlock, and punched in the code. If we told you what it was it wouldn't be secret, and then it wouldn't work (oh no!).
The door slid open. Frost stepped into his small but incredibly useful spaceship, and sealed the airlock behind him.
A few minutes later, he was peering out the viewport at the volcano in space.
There was a cafeteria built on one side.
'Practicality personified', he thought.
